Austin, TX Vein Doctor | Dr. Joel Gotvald

Dr. Joel Gotvald is a board-certified vein doctor who practices medicine in Austin, TX. He is board-certified in Vascular Surgery and General Surgery. He established Austin Vein Specialists over 10 years ago in order to provide Austin and Central Texas with a Center of Excellence for Vein Care.

Dr. Joel Gotvald did his medical training at prestigious surgery training programs in Texas. He completed his residency at the University of Texas Medical Center and St. Joseph Hospital in Houston Texas. As a part of his training he worked over 1 year at MD Anderson Cancer Center training in Surgical Oncology. Following completion of his General Surgery Residency he moved to Dallas, Texas where he performed his Vascular Surgery Fellowship. Dr. Gotvald’s vascular and endovascular training was performed at the Heart and Vascular Hospital in Dallas and at Baylor University Medical Center (Baylor Scott & White Health).

Once his residency and fellowship was completed, Dr. Gotvald became double board-certified in Vascular Surgery and General Surgery. He is recognized by the American Board of Surgery, the American College of Surgeons, and the Society of Vascular Surgeons as a board-certified Vascular Surgeon and Endovascular Specialist. He has been performing surgery since completing his residency in 2001.

Due to his additional interest in a specific niche of Vascular Surgery, Dr. Gotvald went on to do additional training and certification in Venous and Lymphatic Medicine. He became certified as a diplomate of the American Board of Venous and Lymphatic Medicine (ABVLM). Dr. Gotvald has established multiple different Vascular & Vein Centers in the United States, including in Austin, TX, Round Rock, TX, Colorado Springs, CO, and Shreveport, LA. He currently manages and performs venous interventions at his dedicated Vein Centers in Central Texas. He also currently is contracted with local hospitals to provide inpatient hospital vascular and vein services, including weekly hospital consultations, Emergency Department Care, and Intensive Care Unit patient care.
